The ICC Cricket World
Cup 2019 is underway in the United Kingdom but the limelight has been stolen by
the British rains. With the most anticipated clash between arch-rivals India
and Pakistan set to take place at Old Trafford Cricket ground in Manchester on
Sunday, cricket fans and experts across the world have their fingers crossed..
The rain stopped in the late afternoon in Manchester but the
outfield remains a cause of concern. Soggy patches have developed in certain
areas. The nature of the outfield was why India’s match against New Zealand had
to be called off earlier this week. The drainage system at the Old Trafford
ground will be put to the test.
Efforts are on in full force to get the outfield ready for
action for Sunday.
There
is a worrying forecast for tomorrow as well. According to the Met department,
there is more than 50% chance of rain around noon and between 5 pm and 7 pm
(BST) on Sunday. Also, the problem of covers not protecting the
outfield, the issue which led to the abandonment of India’s last match, against
New Zealand, is also present in Manchester.
